Welcome to Iran! – Yazd

About Yazd

The city of Yazd is one of the oldest cities in Iran and located right in the middle of the country. The historical city is a World Heritage Site of the UNESCO since this year and features historical buildings with typical wind-towers, called windcatchers. In the past they were used for ventilation and cooling of the houses as Yazd is located in a desert.

The famous Jameh Mosque of Yazd has the highest minarets in Iran and is famous for its outstanding architecture.

You will also find a lot of art galleries and historical guest houses in Yazd, which are usually open to public. So you can enjoy a tea in a beautiful surrounding and get an impression of the unique architecture. We visited the Fahadan Museum & Hotel, a very romantic place! But you may also visit the Traditional Mehr Hotel or Dad Hotel, a more modern place and excellent hotel.

Another wonderful place is the Dowlat Abad Garden, not far from the city center. It is especially beautiful in the evening. The garden and the mansion were built in the 18th century. The wind tower is one of the highest in Iran.
